Creating a diverse international executive pipeline

SITUATION & CHALLENGES

  • A worldwide electronics giant wished to add diversity to its executive leadership ranks and create an internationalised succession plan. 


  • The C-suite had been previously chosen from the Company's country of origin, and rising competition for talent and customers in fast-growth markets now required the selection and inclusion of a globally representative top team. 


  • The Company invited Morg&Co to advise on developing an approach and process, and then to deliver the first-round results. 


SCOPE OF WORK

  • Morg&Co worked with the Group CHRO and international Country Presidents to develop a repeatable annual process that would drive long-term succession. Our team co-created a 'success scorecard' for future leaders, that highlighted critical attitudes and behaviours. 


  • Based on this, one hundred potential future leaders were selected from around the world based on their initiative, reliability, commercial impact, cultural sensitivity, openness and employee engagement scores. 


  • Those considered 'ready now' attended an in-depth 1:1 development session, conducted by members of our team. Using a fact-based, standardised model we helped the client create a 5-year international succession plan to develop and include global executives in its future leadership team blueprint. 


  • Our team advised Corporate HR on the design and pilot of a tailored Executive course that would help future executives adapt rapidly to the Asian headquarters culture. 


IMPACT & OUTCOMES

  • Within 5 years, the number of international Corporate Officers had increased from four to thirty, driving diversity at the top and accelerating the development of a benchmark-level company culture. 


  • Cooperation and communication improved between international offices and across the supply chain, accelerating the flow of information across annual cohorts.


  • The Company's product portfolio and market propositions became more strongly linked to global markets, and the organization is now winning internationally renowned awards as both a major consumer brand, and a desirable workplace destination. 

Strategy-led managerial selection drives future Company resilience and commercial performance.

Morg&Co combines strategy and psychology to develop succession benches, and prepare organisations for foreseeable future challenges.
